Ayurveda means life science or life wisdom. There is a reason that Ayurveda is the sister science of Yoga, they work together in extraordinary and ordinary ways. We learn to move and strengthen the body in yoga but Ayurveda teaches us to care for our bodies in a way that supports our lives and our yoga practice.
In this six week series we will integrate the foundations of Ayurveda with a physical yoga practice.
We will learn the learn the basics of Ayurveda beginning with the elements (earth, water, fire, air and space, and how these elements come together to create the doshas (vata, pitta, kapha), and how the doshas form at conception and become our constitution. Our constitution informs so much of our experience, whether we run hot or cold, why we are prone to anxiety or depression, whether we have trouble keeping on weight or losing it, why we sleep well or have trouble falling and staying asleep.
When we know our constitution it offers us a deep wisdom into how we are showing up in the world and why. In and out of balance these qualities can inform our state of being and health. This series will provide an opportunity to establish a yoga practice that combined Ayurvedic routines to help support our constitutions instead of struggling against them.
